Title 1 Services

September 2014
Title I and No Child Left Behind
Your student’s school is a Title I School.  Title I is a federally funded program based on the number of students who qualify for free and reduced lunch.  The grant provides resources to eligible schools.  Medford School District Title I schools are school-wide programs serving all students.
The Title I staff provides support to students who are struggling to achieve the state learning standards in reading and math.  The staff may work in a classroom with a group of students or pull students out of the classroom.
Title I programs have teachers and paraprofessionals to provide extended learning time in literacy and math.  This extended time may be provided during school, before or after the school day.  In addition, every teacher and paraprofessional in a Title I school must meet the “highly qualified status” required by NCLB.  At Jackson, all of the teachers and paraprofessionals paid out of Title I funds, are highly qualified.
Parents may request information regarding the professional qualifications of the student’s classroom teachers at any time.  The Oregon Department of Education is responsible for monitoring Title I schools and districts receiving federal funds and holds each accountable for improving the academic achievement of all students to ensure Title I requirements are being met.  Training for all staff is directly linked to improving academic achievement and our School Improvement Plan reflects this with frequent monitoring.  We invite parents to play a critical role in their child’s education and be involved in their child’s capacity for learning.
